VI Spine Series
Introduction
OVERVIEW
The first Vancouver Island spine series was called the 'VI Spine Relay'. Throughout June 2010, groups of people covered the various segments of the Spine from Cape Scott to Victoria by either running, hiking, snowshoeing, mountain biking or horseback riding. Where trail segments have yet to be built, participants cycled on the roads to get from one segment to the next. The purpose of the Relay was to increase community support for the development of the Spine.
In 2011, we are hoping to recreate the success of last year and build on the support and participation of local sports enthusiasts with the VI Spine Series. Come out and join us!
REGISTRATION
Click here for more information about this year's events. Individual entrants can sign up for one or more Sections of the Series. Team entries are also welcome - for the same Section, or more than one Section. We are still working on our sign-up systems; for now, register yourself with the host organization and sign up with VISTA by emailing series@vispine.ca.
PARTICIPATION
People with good physical fitness are invited to participate in one or more sections of the Relay (some sections require a high level of physical fitness, indicated in the schedule below). In addition to the core participants, we will be inviting school groups, community leaders, the general public, businesses, the media, and politicians to hike for short sections (e.g., half day) during the Community Days.
SCHEDULE
The schedule for the series is shown here. For multi-day Sections, you can sign up for part of the Section, provided that logistics can be worked out. (*** indicates a section where a high level of physical fitness is required).
