[PDF version below]

In 2011 we will set a new record for number of events making up the Vancouver Island Spine Trail Spine Series, with 18 outdoor events hosting hundreds of participants! The Series is an annual multi-event celebration to raise awareness for developing a continuous wilderness trail, 700km long, linking communities all along Vancouver Island, from Victoria to Cape Scott. For more information on the 2011 Series events, including photos and videos, please visit http://vispine.ca/series/2011
On Sunday November 6th the 2011 Series will finish with a bike ride on the Galloping Goose Trail. The bike ride begins at 9:15am at Café Fantastico at Dockside Green in Vic West; and continues to Royal Roads University. Additional riders can join along the way, or at 10am meet at the top parking lot (beside marquee) at RRU for the return ride. Please contact: series@vispine.ca for more information, and sign up to ride on the VISpine website. A community celebration will be held at Lido Restaurant in the inner harbour between 11am - noon. Refreshments and snacks will be served and prizes will be awarded for Series participation.

Once completed, the VI Spine Trail will serve local recreational users. It will also be a world class tourist destination of similar significance as the Spanish Camino trails and the Pacific Crest Trail in the United States. The VI Spine Trail will follow existing trails wherever possible, and promises to open up new trails along Lake Cowichan and through the Beaufort Mountains.
