Trip Log
A group of 26 runners joined the Prairie Inn Harriers running club on a 3-4 hour run along the Cowichan River footpath, in Cowichan River Provincial Park. Click here for park brochure.
We started at the Holt Creek trailhead near Duncan and some of us ran to Skutz Falls along the single-track trail near the river. As you can see in the photos, the weather was fantastic.
Although the Vancouver Island Spine Trail will be routed along the "Trans Canada Trail" in this provincial park, the Cowichan River Footpath is a fantastic alternative, running through luscious fern meadows, across creeks and along the Cowichan River, including some riverside sections and top-of-canyons.

Section Description
The very scenic Cowichan River Trail meanders alongside the shores of the Cowichan River through beautiful, mature second growth forest. There will be some technical sections and short climbs and descents along this well maintained trail. There will be three running groups: fast, medium, and slow pace groups as well as a hiking group.
The Cowichan Valley run will commence at 10am at the Trans Canada Trail parking lot near the Cowichan Fish and Game Association. Weblink: http://www.bctrail.ca/Communities/Cowichan/trips.html
All groups should anticipate being on the trail for approximately 3 hours, with the fastest group likely able to complete a loop up to Skutz Falls (approximately 30 km), with all other groups doing an "out and back" run or hike over 2 - 3 hours. This event is free and is open to PIH members. Non-members may attend if there is room and if they register at least 24 hours in advance.
