Section Description

TERRY FOX RUN, WALK, BIKE OR CRAWL (yes, babies invited)!!!

SUNDAY, SEPT 11th, 10:00 a.m., SAYWELL PARK IN LAKE COWICHAN

REGISTRATION 9:00 a.m.

Last year the Terry Fox Run was cancelled in Lake Cowichan. This year our 'Cowichan Lake Retreads' Hiking Club is working hard, with the assistance of 'Cowichan Lake Recreation' to revive the Run. People likeTerry Fox give hope that the human race will survive. He was very young, had cancer, a leg amputated and, incredibly, attempted to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research.

Let all of us help, in whatever way we can, to keep Terry Fox's Dream alive. Invite all friends and family and let the excitement build. There is no entry fee for the Run, participants go whatever distance they wish (10 feet to 10 km) and may choose between making a personal cash donation, a cheque payable to 'The Terry Fox Foundation' or collecting pledges. Pledge forms are presently available at the Arena, Information Centre and The Village Market; also Saywell Park, 9:00 a.m., the morning of the Run.

Let's make Vancouver Island proud of our Cowichan Lake with a huge number of enthusiastic participants in the 2011 Terry Fox Run!!!

There are three route options:
1 - From Saywell Park walk any distance on the Trans Canada Trail (TCT), turn around and return to Saywell Park.
2 - 5 km Loop - Saywell Park to the TCT, follow Greendale Road to the end, return on the TCT to Saywell Park.
3 - 10 km Loop - Saywell Park, continue on the TCT to marker at 'turn around point', return via
Greendale Road to Saywell Park.

Jean Cozens, on what the run means to her: "The short answer is people like Terry Fox give hope the human race will survive. He was very young, had cancer, a leg amputated and, incredibly, attempted to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research. When I became aware, through an article written by Tyler Clarke (Editor with the Gazette Newspaper in Lake Cowichan) that the Terry Fox Run had been cancelled last year I was saddened. It seemed a perfect opportunity for our Hiking Club, 'The Cowichan Lake Retreads', to organize and attempt to get the Terry Fox Run back on track in Lake Cowichan."
