Section 5 - Beaufort Mountains

We decided to delay the "Pièce de Résistance" of the VI Spine Relay due to heavy snow levels and water volume in the mountains. Originally scheduled for June 17-19, this hike was rescheduled to October 2-4. We started at Kim Lake with 25 people in total, most of whom are members of the Comox and District Mountaineering Club, while some were members of the Alberni Valley Outdoor Club. The destination for all but three of us was Mount Clifton near Cumberland. However, as we climbed rugged trail, witnessed building cloud cover and spoke with members of the CDMC about an appropriate time budget, it became clear that the Beaufort Traverse wasn't going to be a reality in 2010.
